Renewal ensures you stay at the forefront of ESD methodologies, trauma-informed practices, and lifelong learning. It’s all about maintaining excellence, integrity, and global alignment with ESD principles. Plus, you can keep the “ESDP” behind your name.

Exam Handbook

Accrue 18 hours (average of 6 hours per year) of learning that will benefit your ESD practices in the form of webinars, courses, or mentorship (in-person or online)

It’s optional, but not necessary, to do for-credit courses, gain a certification in a chosen field, or pay for programs.

Suggested topics: trauma-informed practices, ESD skills, educational practices, movement or martial arts, and business development. We also accept working with
a mentor or coach and independent study topics as professional development.

Do 60 hours (average of 20 hours per year) of hands-on practice, which could include teaching, facilitating, mentoring, volunteering, or board/committee work.

Both in-person and online facilitation count (but not pre-recorded content).

You can include ESD teaching, instructor training, mentoring, volunteering, exam grading, being on a committee for an ESD organization, writing articles about ESD, and more.

Write or record a statement or presentation (600+ words, 5+ minutes, or 12+ slides) sharing at least three insights from your professional development and experience over the past three years.

Choose the format that suits you: written, audio, video, slideshow, or live interview.

Your submission will be reviewed for integrity, commitment to growth, and adherence to requirements. Once approved, you’ll receive an updated badge and certificate, and maybe even a shout-out from IAESDP.

Wondering how to renew your ESD Associate credential? That credential can’t be renewed. Instead, take the ESD Professional Exam within 2-3 years of gaining your Associate credential to level up your expertise.

If you answered "Yes!" to both questions, you're in the right place! This form is for EXISTING ESD Professional Credential holders to renew their Credentialed status.

Note: If you have an ESD Associate Credential, you cannot renew here. Instead, sign up to take the next ESD Professional Exam to level up your credential.

Every exam session we need several volunteers to help grade. It counts toward renewing your credential and is fun!

The Professional Development report should be a record of your eighteen (18) hours of professional development over the three (3) year renewal period. This can include continuing education, coaching, or mentorship. This averages six (6) hours per year. There is no requirement that the hours be evenly divided per year.

The Experience report should be a record of your sixty (60) hours of ESD-related experience. This can include facilitation, teaching, mentoring, volunteering, or similar practice. This averages twenty (20) hours per year. There is no requirement that the hours be evenly divided per year.

Your Reflective Statement can be a written report, slide show, audio or video statement (600+ words, 5+ minutes, or 12+ slides). The goal is to share at least three insights from your professional development and experience over the past three years. This reflective statement is best compiled after all Professional Development and Experience hours have been completed. Note: You may skip this upload if you plan on doing an interview. Renewal Pricing

Sliding Scale & Self-Selection Statement

We offer this Credential Renewal on a tiered system or sliding scale to increase access while sustaining the long-term strength of our professional community.

In the spirit of Empowerment Self Defense, we trust participants to self-select the tier that aligns with their current financial reality, taking into account the suggested income ranges.

We invite you to:
- Choose the tier that reflects your actual ability to pay.
- Consider your access to financial stability, savings, and other resources.
- Contribute at a higher tier if you are able, knowing that doing so increases access for others in our field.
- Understand that maintaining a credential is a once in three years cost.
- There is no application, verification, or justification required for the pricing tiers. We operate from the belief that integrity and self-awareness are core leadership skills.

Selecting your rate is an act of both personal agency and community responsibility. You are the expert on your own circumstances.

If you are unable to pay a minimum of $25 USD, the IAESDP may be able to provide a financial hardship fee waiver to cover the cost of your Renewal. We will email you an application from credentials@esdprofessionals.org if you are applying for a fee waiver.

Members receive 20% off.
If renewing more than 6 months after Credential expiration, $35 will be added to the renewal cost. This does not apply if your expiration date was extended.
